Full name Simon Charles Pendered MacCorkindale was born on the 12th of February 1952 in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England to Peter Bernard MacCorkindale and Gilliver Mary of Scottish descent.
His father was a captain with the Royal Air Force a job that required him moving around Europe and as a result, Simon lived in different parts of Europe during his upbringing.
With the initial dream of becoming a member of the Royal Air Force terminated by poor eyesight, Simon decided to follow another of his passion which was the theatre.
He attended Haileybury and Imperial Service College and upon graduation opted not to attend the University but attended Studio 68 drama school at the Theatre of Arts in London.
Simon started out in the theatre and got his first role in 1973 at the Belgrade Theatre in a play titled A Bequest to the Nation. He also played in Pygmalion at the West End theatre.
From there on he went on to television and appeared in series such as Sutherland’s Law, Claudius, and Jesus of Nazareth.
He starred in his first movie titled Juggarnut in 1973 but his role as Simon Doyle in the 1978 movie of Death on the Nile was what shot him to the limelight as he awed almost everyone by his performance which earned him the London Evening Standard Award. With the success of this movie, he moved to the United States.

Upon his arrival to the States, getting a role became a hurdle as most producers sighted his British accent as a reason for not giving him a role.
For two years he wasn’t given any role until he finally got the role of Professor Chase in the NBC adventure series Manimal.
This opened the door for him as he got other roles which include Caboblanco (1980), The Sword and the Sorcerer (1982) where he played as Prince Mikah and the television series Jaws 3-D (1983) where he played as Philip FitzRoyce.
Apart from acting, Simon also ventured into writing, producing and directing. His works include Stealing Heaven (1988), That Summer of White Roses (1989), and Such A Long Journey (1998). His last known major work was in the BBC One medical drama Casualty where he played over 200 episodes before his battle with cancer.

He married actress Fiona Fullerton in 1976 and the marriage lasted for six years before both filed for divorce in 1982. After the divorce, he began dating actress Susan George, and they got married in 1984. MacCorkindale didn’t have any child from both marriages.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 and this affected his career. He went for surgery and other treatment but cancer grew and affected other organs in his body. This led him spending most of his money on various treatments but none improved his health. He finally passed away on the 14th of October 2010 in a London hospital.
