Roy Hay is a famous English guitarist-keyboardist with Culture Club, a band of the 1980s fronted by Boy George. He was born on the 12 of August 1961, in Southend, Essex, England.
Roy fell in love with music from an early age and began to practice to play the piano from the age of 5.
He cites the likes of Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers, and Led Zeppelin as some of his biggest musical influences.
He became famous after joining the musical band Culture Club back in the early ’80s and later replacing one of the band’s founding member Johnny Suede in 1981.
According to the “Culture Club” episode the VH-1 series Behind the Music, Hay assisted Boy George in giving up heroin.
After his removal from the group, the singer suffered the painful withdrawal symptoms closely attended by Hay in his Essex home.
Meanwhile, after much time with the band, Hay went on to form another band known as This Way Up, and they released three singles in 1987 titled: “Tell Me Why”, “If I Can’t Have You” and “Louise”.
This was followed by an album titled ‘Feeling Good About It’ released in some European countries and in Japan in 1987.
However, of all the songs released by Hay’s new band, only one single, “Tell Me Why” made it to the UK Singles Chart and only lasted for a week at number 72 spot.
In 1989, Hay decided to make a move to Los Angeles, the U.S where he wrote for and produced young artists and bands for Sony Music.
And from there, he dived into commercial composing and sound design with his own company Haywired Music.
Moving on, Hay later found success in Hollywood, California as a composer. He worked with fellow composer Hans Zimmer to compose the music for a series directed by Robert Altman, as well as the music for Cracker and for Stephen King’s The Dead Zone.
Furthermore, in 1998, Hay was reunited with the three original members of the band Culture Club and together, they recorded a new album released the same year.

Roy was married to Alison Green but the two are currently divorced. They met at the beginning of his career with Culture Club and married in 1982.
