Park Jae-sang or PSY as he is professionally known, was born on 31 December 1977 to a wealthy family that lived in the father Gangnam District of Seoul, South Korea. His father Park Won-Ho, is the executive chairman of DI Corporation, a manufacturer of semiconductor manufacturing equipment listed on the Korea Exchange, while his mother, Kim Young-hee was the owner of multiple restaurants in Gangnam. He grew up in Gangnam and attended the Banpo Elementary and Middle School, before proceeding to Sehwa High school.
PSY didn’t like school and was a popular class clown during his time in school. One of PSY’s former class teacher told South Korea’s Seoul Broadcasting System in an interview that, “I remember Psy making a lot of sexual jokes during class. He had such a big influence that he would drive the entire class to his jokes. I disliked him at the time, but looking back, I see that he added great energy to the class.”
Park discovered his love for music at the age of 15 after he watched a Korean TV Programme that introduced foreign pop music.
