You are not short from your expectation. But, However, when it comes to Intelligence Quotient or “IQ”, and who possesses the highest of it, you will be surprised to see who comes at number one. It has over the years become a topic of discussion to try and measure someone’s intelligence. Most people believe that some of these super intelligent people are born with the ability, others are of the opinion that these people had to work really hard as they grow older. But, whichever it is, one thing is for sure, they are the smartest ones amongst us.

We sure can’t talk about IQ and not make mention of one of the greatest minds of our time, Stephen Hawking. He was a professor, a theoretical physicist, and a renowned writer. He authored the book “A Brief History of Time” which sold more than 10 million copies globally. Stephen Hawking was the Mohammed Ali when it comes to the study of black holes. It was his area of specialization before his death in 2018. Stephen Hawking, before his death, had struggled with mycotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a sickness that made him incapable of moving any part of his body. However, his condition didn’t stop him for doing what he loved the most, physics, which saw him become a symbol of knowledge and intelligence in the field, an honor he so rightly deserved!

This man needs no introduction. His name alone sounds like a synonym to genius. Albert Einstein comes next as the person with the highest IQ. He is of the greatest minds in history and has shaped the future of science during his time. Einstein was honoured with a Nobel Prize for his discovery of the law of photoelectric effect. He also invented the theory of relativity.
Einstein was truly a genius, and calculating his IQ gave researchers a bit of a problem so they had to rely on estimating his test score by analyzing his papers thoroughly. You have to be at some god-level of genius to have scientists and researchers go through all that just to prove how smart you are!

Talk about defiling the odds, Jacob Barnett was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism when he was two years old, and doctors said he was never going to be able to learn how to tie his own shoes.
However, the young lad taught himself how to dress, and impressively finished grade 6 through 12 in less than a year. But he didn’t stop there! The American child prodigy went on to college at just 10, and by the time he was 13, he’d already been ordained a published physicist. Jacob is currently pursuing his PhD at 19.

Judith Polgar is regarded as a pioneer for women in the game of chess, this follows her victory over the reigning champion of the world Garry Kasparov in 2002 and 10 other world champions. She proudly holds the record as the youngest ever chess grandmaster.

Next on our list of people with the highest IQ is an engineer, a mathematician, computer scientist, and geologist Philip Emeagwali. He is Nigerian. He holds a degree in mathematics and was the winner of the 1989 Gordon Bell Prize, a prize from the IEEE. Philip Emeagwali discovered a way of using a connection machine supercomputer to detect petroleum fields. Philip Emeagwali is a true definition of persistence, hard work, and dedication, despite facing several racial discriminations, rejections, he still pushed forward and never gave up, and went on to bag three Master’s degree in Mathematics, Environmental and Marine Engineering from various universities.

Who knew a man who had once worked as a bouncer, a stripper, and even a nude model could wind up as one of the people with the highest IQ in the world? Meet Rick Rosner, the man who took more than 30 IQ tests to just prove how smart he is. He was once dubbed as the second-smartest man in the world before becoming a famous TV writer. Although he lost the case, Rick Rosner had once sued ABC network after failing a question at the $16,000 level in the Who Wants to be a Millonaire challenge. He claimed that the question was faulty.

Up next on our list at number 11 is Garry Kasparov. He is Russian and is believed to be the greatest chess player of all time. Kasparov was ranked world number 1 in the world over 225 times over three courses of 228 months.

Garry Kasparov even went on to prove his brilliance when he matched up against a chess computer named Deep Blue from IBM; a computer that could calculate over a million moves per second. And as far as consecutive wins go, Garry Kasparov still holds the record as the man with the most of it.

For a man who began speaking at the age of just six months, there’s no surprise Christopher Michael Langan made it to the list of people with the highest IQ. The San Francisco, California born man taught himself how to read when he was 3 and was said to have gotten the perfect score, even after he was found sleeping during the exam. Often times, Christopher has been praised as America’s smartest man. He is the pioneer of the theory known as “Cognitive-Theoretic Model of the Universe” (CTMU), a theory which studies the relationship between minds and reality.

Evangelos Katsioulis is a Greek psychiatrist who holds degrees in philosophy and medical research technology. He has an MD, MSc, MA, PhD, and was ranked with the highest IQ score in the world, according to the World Genius Directory. He ranks 9th on our list as the person with the highest IQ score.

8. Nathan Leopold: (IQ – 200)

While most people use their intellectual gifts to earn themselves great recognition for impressive discoveries, development of theories, or inventions, Nathan Leopold, who was said to have an IQ of 200, and could speak nine languages by age 18, decided to use his to commit what he described as the “perfect crime” AT 19. However, he and his accomplice were caught and arrested, and he spent 33-years in jail before he was released.

At number 7th position as the person with the highest IQ, we have Edith Stern. As surprising as it is, her father’s medical bill for his cancer treatment was paid for by Albert Einstein. Edith is one of the special ones. She began communicating with cards at just 11 months old and was able to identify letters when she got to a year old. More astonishing was that, when she got to two, she could speak the entire alphabets. Due to her super intelligence, she enrolled into college at just age 12 and after 4-years, she was already teaching trigonometry there. She is currently a distinguished engineer and inventor at IBM, with a PhD in mathematics.

6. Kim Ung-Yong (IQ – 210)

Kim Ung-Yong comes 6th as the person with the highest IQ with a score of 210. Kim was born in Korea in 1963, and he began speaking at just 6 months old. What’s even more impressive and most surprising was that, in his third year, Kim had already studied English, Korean, Japanese, and German languages and could speak them fluently. His drive and love for more knowledge saw him turn down admission into Korea’s most prestigious university when he was 16. He instead, chose to pursue a PhD in civil engineering. Kim Ung-Yong is currently a teacher at Chungbuk National University in South Korea and spends most of his out of class time doing research.

5. Christopher Hirata (IQ – 225)

At number 5 is Christopher Hirata. He won the gold medal at the international physics Olympiad in 1996 when he was just 13-years-old. Becoming the youngest ever gold medalist at the international physics Olympiad. He didn’t stop there, at age 16, Christopher went on to assist in a NASA project and later obtained his PhD at 22 from the Princeton University. Currently, Christopher works at Ohio State University as a visiting professor.

Marilyn Vos Savant is our fourth person with the highest IQ. She is of the belief that, as a lady, even after marriage, one should still continue with their premarital surnames (which is done by many women today). Hence, she kept her Mother’s surname, Vos Savant. She worked in her dad’s general store as a teenager and wrote articles at that time for a local newspaper. Marilyn became famous after she got the top spot in the Guinness Book of World Records list of the “highest IQ” category in 1986. A position she went on to hold for the next 3-years.

While most people grow up to detest mathematics, Terence Tao showed especial ability towards the subject at a very young age. He even started attending university-level math courses and had acquired a PhD just at 20. Wow! Terence also won the Field’s Medal in 2006; the Field’s Medal is the equivalent to the Nobel Prize but in the field of mathematics, and is given out once every 4-years.

Well, when you talk about people with exceptional intellectual abilities. You just have to make mention of this guy, William James Sidis. He was born with it, the intellect runs in his family.
From the very beginning he started to exhibit incredible intellectual prowess like – knowing how to use a typewriter at just 5, and a year older, he already knew how to speak 6 different languages; Latin, Greek, Russian, French, German and Hebrew. And what’s more fascinating is that, when he 6-years-old, he got denied of admission to Harvard as he was labelled emotionally immature.

But he is the person with the highest IQ. And he also is the youngest, born in 1999, he was the youngest person to pass chemistry O-level in the world, and he was only 7-years-old. As captivating as he is, Ainan began taking chemistry lectures when he was 8 at the Singapore Polytechnic, an institution of higher learning, and was also able to recite pi to 518 decimal places. The Irish child genius is truly a special individual. His IQ score of 263 has earned him the number 1 spot on our list as the person with the highest IQ.
