Born as Mary Lucy Denise Henner on April 6, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, to parents Loretta Callis (born Nikoleta Kalogeropoulos), and Joseph Henner (whose surname was originally Pudlowski).
She is the third of six children of her parents. Her mother Loretta did of arthritis at age 58 and her father died of a heart attack at age 52. She is of both Greek and Polish descent.
She grew up in the northwest part of Chicago in the Logan Square neighborhood. Before her mother’s passing, she was president of the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Arts and ran the Henner Dance School for 20 years.
Henner began dancing from an early age and took her first dance class at age 2.
When she turned 14, Henner had already begun teaching dance lessons at her family’s studio and choreographed shows at local high schools and colleges until leaving the Chicago area during her third year of college.
Marilu began her career in acting from college in 1971. During her time at the University of Chicago, Henner worked for thе “Grease” Musical.
She made her film debut in 1977 in the film, ‘Between the Lines’. After that, ѕhе worked in the film ‘Bloodbrothers’ in 1978 where she was cast alongside American actor, Richard Gere.
