The show achieved global success and the salary of the characters which kept on rising with each season was a testament to that.
One of the major actors to have benefited from such salary increase is Kit Harington who played the character ‘Jon Snow’.
His daring performance in the series has seen the British born actor rake in a chunk of dollar bills during and after the show.
Kit Harington (Jon Snow) net worth currently peaks at $12 million after the final episode of Game of Thrones.
How did he arrive at such a huge net worth? How did Jon Snow rise from a bastard to becoming one of the most important characters in the most popular TV series Game of Thrones?
Let’s dive in as we unveil secret behind his fame and success…
Christopher Catesby ‘Kit’ Harrington was born on the 26 December 1986 in Acton, London to Deborah Jane (Catesby) and Sir David Robert Harington, 15th Baronet.
His mother is a former playwright and his father a businessman. His name ‘Kit’ was derived from Christopher Marlowe, whose first name was shortened to Kit.
He attended Southfield Primary School from 1992 to 1998. When Kit turned 11, his family moved to Worcestershire where he got accepted into Chantry High School in Martley until 2003.
When he turned 14, Kit took interest in acting after watching a production of Waiting for Godot and began performing in several school productions.
He went on to study Drama and Theatre at the Worcester Sixth Form College from 2003-05. At 17, his inspiration for acting grew even larger and he decided to attend a drama school after watching the performance of Ben Whishaw as Helmet in 2004.
After his graduation from Sixth Form College, Kit moved back to London where he attended the Central School of Speech and Drama, graduating in 2008 at 18-years of age.
Kit began to pick interest in acting at 14 after watching a production of Waiting for Gadot. The play inspired him and he began to audition different roles and performing in different school productions.
He made his professional debut stage appearance in the National Theatre and London’s West End. Kit landed the role to play the character Albert in the play War Horse, while still at the drama school Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.
After his graduation from the school in 2008, he went quiet for a while before resurfacing in 2011 as the character Jon Snow in HBO’s Game of Throne series. This was where his rise to stardom all began.
After a successful first season of the series, the producers decided to continue with the show after seeing increases in viewers’ interest.
The show continued until its eighth season in 2019, which was its final season. The show’s storyline revolved around Kit Harington’s character, Jon Snow, which made Kit a person of importance in the show and a character everyone loved to watch.
Aside from Game of Thrones, Kit Harington has appeared in a lot of other TV shows and films as well.
His filmography includes the 2014 film Pompeii, 2016’s Spooks: The Greater Good, and the 2017 show Gunpowder.
Many would have expected Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke to hook up after casting, going by their closeness in the show.
But it turns out Kit is Married, and it’s not to the mother of dragons. Remember Ygritte, the wildling girl from the second season of Game of Thrones that Jon Snow later fell in love with but was later killed in season 3? Yup! She’s the wife of Kit Harington. She is Rose Leslie.
They met in the casting of the second season and fell in love afterwards. They got married on June 23, 2018, in Rayne Parish Church in Aberdeen, Rose parent’s hometown.
Their wedding was attended by fellow cast members of the show which includes Sophie Turner, Peter Dinklage, Maisie Williams, and Emilia Clarke.
Kit and Rose are yet to have kids, but the couple has so far shared a loved up photo of each other on social media to show their marriage is a happy one.
Taking a break from his acting and marriage, Kit Harington is also a philanthropist. In May 2019, Harington checked into a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.
