Judith was born to a German-Jewish family on the 21st of October 1942 in Brooklyn, New York. She had wonderful parents as she held her parents in high esteem and speaks highly of them till date. Upon graduation, she got a job at a cosmetics firm to serve in their legal department. She worked there for two years and resigned to spend more time with her family. After some time she moved on to work in New York family court as she specialized in cases involving child abuse cases, domestic violence and juvenile crimes. Due to her strict work ethics, the mayor of New York City Mayor Ed Koch appointed her to serve in the position of a criminal court judge in 1982. After some time on the job, she got promoted.

She is known for her strict work ethics and some referred to her as a no-nonsense judge but all of the descriptions were based on her not being easily bought over. She was once featured on the Los Angeles Times for her good reputation. In 1996, she published her first book Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Raining. She retired in 1996 and ventured into a television show.

She began her television personality career towards the end of the third quarter of 1996. The show was named Judge Judy and CBS were the producers. The show is still airing till date. She got motivated to start the show based on her belief that people should do what is right and also be aware that any action whether good or bad as a consequence.
