He obtained his O’Level from Moseley Grammar School and got a job as a trainee buyer at Beehive a large departmental store in the city of Birmingham.
He left the job and ventured into the world of music joining the musical group Denny Laine and the Diplomats but after a short time left to join Carl Wayne & the Vikings band and finally moved to pioneer another band named The Move.
The Move became so popular that some referred to it as the British version of The Beatles. It comprised of composer Roy wood, Wayne, Rick Price, Jeff Lyne, Ace Kefford and Bev Bevan as the drummer.

From 1966-1970 the group released streams of records that made waves in Europe but the didn’t enter the United States.
Apart from Bevan been the drummer, he also was the lead vocalist in two singles titled Zing Went the Strings of My Heart and Ben Cawley Steel Company. As usual with most musical groups, some left in the 70s leaving behind Bevan, Wood, and Jeff Lyne.
