Barack Obama is a former President of the United States of America a position he held for a period of eight years and was succeeded by Donald Trump. Before serving as president, he has been an active politician and attorney. He served in the Illinois state senator and also as a federal senator for Illinois. Obama is known for signing the same-sex marriage law, execution of Osama Bin Laden and also withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan. Born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii to a black father and white mother. His mother Ann Dunham from the United States and Father Obama Snr from Kenya. Some weeks after his birth, he moved with his mom to the University of Washington, Seattle while his dad completed his schooling in Hawaii graduating with an economics degree in 1962. His dad later moved on to Harvard University where he obtained a master’s degree in economics. In 1964, his parents got divorced leading to his dad moving back to Kenya while he remained with his mom in the United States. In 1965 his mom got married to Lolo Soetoro an Indonesian.

Obama started out his education at St. Francis pre-education school. From there he went on to Punahou school in Honolulu. After High school, he moved on to study at Occidental college in 1979. He was later transferred to Colombia University New York where he obtained a bachelor of arts degree in 1983. After graduation, he briefly worked as a financial researcher at the Business International Corporation.

Career

In 1985, he worked as a community organizer for a church-based community organisation in Southern Chicago. He later left to work as a consultant for Gamaliel Foundation.

After finishing from the University of Chicago law school, he began practising his profession with a law firm by the name Davis, Miner, Barnhill and Galland which had a speciality in civil rights litigation where he worked for three years. From 1992-2004 he taught the law on a part-time basis at the University of Chicago law school. For four years he held the position of a lecturer but got promoted to the position of senior lecturer, a position he held for eight years. He asks engaged in voters registration during the 1992 elections. Obama also served as a member of the board of reputable firms and foundations.

In 1996, he ran for the Illinois state Senate as a Democrat and won. This was the beginning of his political career. He was bipartisan as he supported legislation that had positive effects on the lives of people. Obama legislated more on health care,  welfare and ethics. He got reelected in 1998 and 2002 but lost in 2000 when he contested for the US House of Representatives elections.

After careful planning and thorough prospecting, he contested for the US Senate in 2004 and had a landslide victory that gave him popularity among the Democrats. Obama was sworn in 2005. He sponsored bills that promoted accountability and transparency in government. He resigned in 2008 to pursue his presidential ambition.

In 2008, he ran for the position of President as a Democrat against John McCain of the Republican. He won both the electoral college and popularity votes thus making him the first African American elected president of the United States. In 2012, he got reelected after defeating Mit Romney of the Republicans.

During his stint as president, he notably supported the same-sex marriage law, removal of US troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. Also during the hit of recession, he signed an economic stimulation pack and also reduced the unemployment level from 7.7% to below 3.9%. Barack Obama is also notably implemented child health care and energy policies.

Obama handed over to Donald Trump on January 20, 2019, and currently stays in Kalorama, Washington with his family. He is married to Michelle Obama and they have three children.
